This happened a little while ago, but it gives me a chance to tell you all a story...
I am an avid & enthusiastic supporter of many sports, one of my favourites is, Basketball. So when i had the opportunity to attend the Hawks first NBL game of the 2009/2010 season, i jumped on the possibility.
Towards the end of the 2008 season, the then IMB Hawks were in dire financial trouble. That was until public rallying, started by the Hawks team captain, to save the team, achieved their goal in early 2009. The winning campaign meant the now, AHM Hawks were able to stay in the National Basketball League and compete for the 2009/2010 season.
I attended the ‘Sand Pit’ (the Hawks home court in Wollongong) early to get settled in my
seat & to prepare for the oncoming chanting & support. On came the music & out came the Hawk’s to the crowds delight. The away team was the Perth Wildcats, a strong team to say the slightest. The game began, with barrages of ‘swish’ hoops, shots taken from ‘way down town’ & fancy fast foot work. My support for my team was paramount & unmatched. The game was close to say the least. But once again, Wollongong showed that they have one of the strongest teams in the NBL, finishing with the close victory of 94 to 92.
The magic then came after the show for me. As to top the night off, i got to meet & greet some of the players from the team, with some great photo opportunities & signage. I now have a big collage above my bed with all my photos to remember the night i met the Hawks, always.
Great shot of you Paul
